One of my favorite NY bands White Rabbits are set to release 2nd album It’s Frightening produced by Britt Daniel of Spoon on May 19th. I loved their first album Fort Nightly and am pumped about the followup. The video sealed the deal for me:
From Stella and The State alum and director of Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models, David Wain’s off-the-wall web series Wainy Days returns for Season 4. Set in Brooklyn, the show follows David’s hapless forays into relationships in self-standing hilarious episodes and features appearances from Wain cohorts like Paul Rudd, Michael Ian Black, Rashida Jones, Jonah Hill, Joe Lo Truglio and season opener Amanda Peet!
Watch the new episode below and skip back to see how things got started.
I’ve been jamming this funky electro song from this UK group lately. The sound is somewhere between 80’s Smiths-like pop and 70’s disco. They just released a badass new album called True Romance and here’s the title track:
This jangly young Brooklyn band is turning peoples’ heads with their release of first full album Technicolor Health. The album is a riot, but this song off the 2007 succinctly titled EP Burning Birthdays - EP gets me pretty worked up. They’re touring this summer with freak-psych indie darlings Passion Pit. Check it.
This classic sketch kicked off the 2nd season of MTV’s Human Giant starring Aziz Ansari, Rob Huebal, and Paul Scheer. Let it be a lesson to you kids, leave your dick on.
‘Death’ is the epic first single off this UK trio’s #1 album To Lose My Life.
I had the pleasure of seeing them rock pretty hard during the CMJ Festival in NY last fall (free show at the Ben Sherman store, mind you). They recently toured the states with another great UK band The Friendly Fires and are now trekking across Europe before returning for Lollapalooza in August. For fans of The Killers and Interpol.
The video for their latest single ‘Farewell to the Fairground’ finds them visiting my arctic mother country Russia. Well played, boys:
I love this band! They’re one of my big recent favorites. Some of the band is from England but they now live Brooklyn. After touring with the likes of Oasis in England, they’re doing a sweep through the big festivals: Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo (with me!), and Austin City Limits. Pick up their album The Thief and the Heartbraker soon.
Welcome to old-fashioned fun. I’ll be posting some stuff I find amusing or exciting - mostly new music and stand-up/sketch comedy. If I think it’s good, I’ll show it some love. Got any tips, compliments, threats? Shoot me an email at oldfashfun@gmail.com. Thanks for reading.
